BUS AT CAL SQUARE 4 free pattern Straight Lines

Square 4 without and with surface crochet as this latter detail is an optional extra.

The surface crochet is shown here in silver grey but in practice it would be in the graphite as a high contrast is not what is desirable here. The contrast is applied to demonstrate the stitching possibility .

Abbreviations as before:
BPTr= Back post Treble
FPTr- Front post Treble.

Sch= Surface chain- optional. worked in same yarn or contrast yarn.

As for each square: the Tch= turning chain does not count as a stitch.

Foundation row: Ch 18 with 6 mm hook.

Row 1: change to 5 mm hook, ch 2 ( =Tch), work 18 Htr in chain starting from 3rd ch from hook.

Row 2: ch2, work 2 Htr into Htr below, work FPTr round post /body of 3rd HTr below, work 1 HTr in each of the next 4 HTr, then work a FPTr round the body of the next HTr in the row below, work 1 HTr into each of the next 2 HTr, work a FPTr round the body of the next HTr in the row below, work 1 HTr into each of the next 4 HTr, work a FPTr round the body of the next HTr below and finish the row with one HTr into each of the final 2 stitches. ( 18 sts)

to clarify the sequence is:
2 HTr, 1 FPTr, 4HTr, 1FPTr,2 HTr,1FPTr, 4 HTr, 1FPTr,2HTr.

Row 3: Ch2, 2 HTr, 1 BPTr, 4HTr, 1BPTr, 2HTr, 1BPTr, 4 HTr, 1 BPTr, 2HTr.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until the work measures 14 cm and finish with a row of a Tch of 2 ch and 18 HTr. Fasten off.

Optional:
Surface crochet embellishment.
Using same or contrast yarn and a 5 mm hook, starting above the first row of HTr, and centrally placed in one of the 4 HTr groups, insert hook from front to back and holding yarn at back of fabric, bring a loop up with the hook from the back to the front, 1 loop on hook.
Now insert the hook 1 space or stitch higher vertically from front to back and collect the yarn from the back and pull it through the loop on hook, adjust carefully so the chain stitch lies flat on the surface. repeat all the way to the top but finish below the last row of HTr.  Fasten off, leaving an end to sew in later.

Repeat in the other group of 4HTr and then  repeat in the centre of the square as shown in photo.
